The Mechanic II works with minimal supervision, may lead or mentor lower-level mechanics, and plays a critical role in ensuring operational reliability during both routine and emergency conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform independent diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, equipment, and industrial machinery.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on pumps, compressors, generators, engines, and various mechanical systems at water treatment plants and pumping stations.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
- Fabricate, modify, or rebuild equipment components as needed.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inspection reports.
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and organizational standards.
- Assist with emergency response efforts related to equipment failure or operational disruptions.
- May provide guidance, training, or oversight to Mechanic I or other junior personnel.
- Proficient knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, hydraulic and pneumatic components, and diagnostic techniques.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in a utility or industrial setting.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond to emergency situations.
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of a vocational or technical program in mechanics or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL may be preferred depending on job duties.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and operate in varying environmental conditions.
