Job Title: Mechanic II

Job Summary:
The Mechanic II is a skilled-level position responsible for performing advanced maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of motorized equipment, including gasoline and diesel engines. This role includes maintaining mechanical systems at water treatment plants, pumping stations, and other utility infrastructure. The Mechanic II works with minimal supervision, may lead or mentor lower-level mechanics, and plays a critical role in ensuring operational reliability during both routine and emergency conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform independent diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, equipment, and industrial machinery.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on pumps, compressors, generators, engines, and various mechanical systems at water treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
  • Fabricate, modify, or rebuild equipment components as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inspection reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and organizational standards.
  • Assist with emergency response efforts related to equipment failure or operational disruptions.
  • May provide guidance, training, or oversight to Mechanic I or other junior personnel.
Qualifications:
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, hydraulic and pneumatic components, and diagnostic techniques.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in a utility or industrial setting.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond to emergency situations.
  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a vocational or technical program in mechanics or a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL may be preferred depending on job duties.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and operate in varying environmental conditions.
