We are currently seeking experienced and mission-driven Registered Nurses (RNs) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a clinical setting.


Salary: $50/hr

Weekly Pay with Benefit Options

Shifts Available w /rotating schedule and Overtime offered:
  • 2:45 pm - 11:15 pm, every other weekend off
  • 6:45 am - 11:15 pm, Saturdays and Sundays (weekend doubles)
    • This schedule can optionally commit to an additional 8-hour shift on a weekday
*6-month Minimum Contract Assignment with Option to Extend 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs moderate to complex patient service work. This includes routine and emergency care, treatment, and training for people with intellectual disabilities in a residential setting. 
  • Performs routine nursing work at the competent level
  • Works under moderate supervision from Charge Nurses or Nurse Managers (Nurses II/III) with limited use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients' nursing care needs using specialized skills in (depending on the setting) psychiatric or medical-surgical nursing. 
  • Identifies nursing diagnoses or problem lists and formulates an initial plan of care based on assessment data.  Serves as a team leader and provides clinical supervision to other nursing staff members including Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Mental Health Workers as necessary. 
  • Establishes unit routines and develops and maintains the therapeutic milieu.
  • Makes observations of patient behavior and status and reports to the physician, other team members and supervisor as appropriate.
  • Carries out nursing interventions as identified in the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Administers medications as ordered and maintains medication administration and controlled drug records according to facility policy. 
  • Serves as group leader for therapeutic patient groups or patient teaching activities as necessary or as requested.
  • Trains other staff members as necessary or as requested.
  • Must understand that duties, location of work, and shift/pattern are subject to change as determined by the administration to meet the needs of the hospital.
  • Must understand that duties may include exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material 
  • Comply with facility Standard Operating Procedures to meet standards for accrediting agencies; specifically, Joint Commission guidelines, CMS Standards, BSH Policy and Directives and HHSC Standards, Rules and Directives.


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact) 
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid Photo ID
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Prior experience performing psychiatric nursing duties
  • Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses and procedures; of accepted medical treatment patterns; of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures; of program regulations and procedures.
  • Must be able to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental or psychiatric disabilities and staff members.
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures, techniques, and the principles and processes used in providing appropriate patient care.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR, and ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergencies.
  • Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and in considering an appropriate resolution of situations.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and applicable computer software.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and to use an electronic health record system once trained.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to instruct others.
  • Must have strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
